They don’t adequately chock a car’s wheels should the handbrake and/or parking pawl fail, they don’t do a super brilliant job of containing a heavy downpour, the shock to a car’s suspension is akin to hitting a speed bump, and it’s even easier for pedestrians to trip over this than a 90 degree curb. Does anybody else hate these curbs?

It’s also easier to add a new drive in whatever location you want without having to do anew curb cut.

True, although it only takes 5 seconds to adjust the curb-side mirror to view the rear wheel.

I like them. You can park by really close without worrying about rubbing the rims, in fact they make it really easy to park since you can just go by feel.
If we’re talking incidents involving inadvertently jumping curbs there’s no universe in which these will do more damage than a square curb, if a pedestrian trips over that easier than a square curb I recommend they put their phone down for a split second of their life, and the odds of the pawl and parking brake failing at the same time are positively minute and even if they did there’s likely still enough bite between the two of them for that curb to hold it unless you’ve go some SERIOUS slope going on.

YES, completely agree. We have those - too big to make pulling into the driveway ever a smooth event yet do nothing to keep cars off the sidewalk. Purely looks over function.

I hate adjusting my mirrors if I don’t have to. I’m very sensitive to changes and I never seem to be able to get them in the right spot again. Thankfully I can see where my wheel is without it, but snugging up to the curb still requires backing up whereas with angled curbs I can snug up in one go, no reverse.

I like them. No curb rash, much easier to angle out of a driveway since the drop off isn’t as steep when the curb starts up again.

Argument still stands. There’s no way square curbs would be less damaging to either the car or your spine. For the record I have square curbs. Also, backing in>pulling in.
Manuals should always be left in first or reverse gear when parked.

SECOND THOUGHT: It seems you’re talking about having them directly in front of the driveway. Yeah. Fuck that. You always need a shallower angle at the driveway, the angled curbs aren’t shallow enough... and if you made them shallow enough they wouldn’t be any use as curbs. The towns that do this to save $$ need their decision makers smacked from where I am to where you are.
But I still disagree with you if you’re saying these shouldn’t be put anywhere. I vastly prefer them over square curbs,

In Kelowna, they have these stupid curbs in front of driveways, parking lots, even some roads without having the curb cut. If it isn’t in front of a driveway, these are better than unmountable curbs anywhere that isn’t prone to flooding.

They don’t cut these curbs near driveways and parking lots where I live right now. I’m pulling in and out at less than 10 MPH (max speed into a parking lot), and shock wear is bizarrely high compared to back east, where they cut the curbs for driveways and parking lots.

If your car is low grab a pair of these for the trunk.
Sidenote: These are my favorite curb types for normal situations.
Simple, cheap, less likely to give you curb rash, and they look good.

You can do a u-turn in the middle of the street with any car since it ramps right up the sidewalk.
I haven’t had any issues pulling up a driveway like this in my DD, but I’ve yet to see if my MR2 scrapes.

my mk2 cracked the windshield going diagonal into a parking lot in Westbank back in the day.. and I know a few friends who have popped windshields hitting manholes with their dub beams..

Touch wood, I haven’t scraped on a driveway yet and there’s more than enough tolerances to eliminate scuttle shake. The shock and strut wear across all cars seems way faster with these curbs than with cut curbs though. I’ve never seen a worn out strut on a car with less than 80k on it until I moved out to Kelowna.
